Everyone loves to hear fable tales from grand parents. Do we realise that all their advices about life and health are some super tricks to stay happy and healthy! 
Like, you may have heard that drinking water in copper vessel is good for health. But, how far it stands true? Lets find out. 

Copper: How important for health? 
Our body is regulated by defined mechanisms and channels. This needs nutrients of all kinds - macro & micro. But we under estimate the importance of micro nutrients way too much. 
Copper - A  trace element,  is one such micronutrient that is vital for good health. Copper has a crucial role in maintaining myelin sheath around nerves which in turn,  ensures proper transmission of nerve impulses. Copper also ensures maintenance of collagen & elastin in muscles & connective tissues of heart and skin. Not only this,  the one & only - Powerhouse of cell - Mitochondria  needs Copper for proper regulation of reactions in Mitochondria. 
Importance of Copper as a trace nutrient for our body thus, cannot be neglected.

What Ayurveda believes? 
Ayurveda realizes the importance of Copper as a balancing element as it has the ability to balance the three doshas - Vatta, pitta & kapdha of our body.  Ayurveda highly recommends that water stored in copper vessel for atleast 8 hours is known as, 'tamar jal' should be consumed regularly for several health benefits. 

COPPER FOR HEALTH

Our body does not synthesises copper thus,  needs to be ingested regularly. Some of our daily routine foods although, contain copper but the need yet not gets fulfilled.  Ayurveda thus, recommends drinking ' Tamar jal ' on a regular basis  for several health benefits. 

1) Kills Bacteria - Copper has oligodynamic properties i.e it has the ability to destroy bacteria effectively. Thus, it has the power to prevent common bacterial diseases as diarrhoea, dysentry & jaundice etc. 
Infact, in many countries,  copper was accepted as the cheapest solution for cleaning water and sterilizing it. 
2) Aids digestion - Copper helps stimulate peristalsis ( movements in smooth muscles of digestive tract for progressing food particles further). This takes care  of proper absorbtion of food and prevents constipation as well.
3) Detoxifies body - Copper has cleansing & detoxifying properties. It regulates proper work of excretory organs as kidney & liver and thus helps in elimination of waste products effectively flushing all toxins out of the body. 
4) Aids in weight loss - Good digestion encourages better metabolism which in turn,  aids in maintaining a healthy weight. Copper has the ability to regulate this chain really well. Also, it helps emulsify fat better and break it into smaller droplets easily. Thus, Copper targets extra fat of the body and aids in weight loss.

According to American Cancer Society, Optimum levels of Copper in Body takes charge of regulating blood pressure and heart rate. It also aids in maintaining cholesterol and triglyceride  levels - A common health disturbance today. 
It has also been known that Copper helps dilate blood vessels and passages to remove plaque and prevent any kind of accumulations in circulatory passage.  Thus,  Copper is a life - saver element too. 
12) Regulates thyroid gland - It was observed that people with disturbances in thyroid levels often had inappropriate levels of Copper. Commonly seen, people with low levels of Copper suffered from hyper - thyroidism. So, It is essential to have optimal levels of Copper in our body  to prevent thyroid go out of sync.
