It has been more than a year since we have been battling the coronavirus. Now it looks like a vicious cycle that is repeating itself. In the time when masks and sanitisers have become new normal, the Covid-19 vaccination in India is a beacon of hope.

But the story doesn’t seem to end here, though the vaccines have been invented to fight the coronavirus, there seem to be many fears and doubts in the mind of the general public. Here are some of such questions and doubts which we will counter.

Why take the Covid vaccine

• Vaccines help you to fight the coronavirus.

• It helps you to stay healthy.

• It will keep you safe by boosting your immune system.

• Vaccines can stop further communication of the disease.

Vaccines available in India

There are numerous vaccines available that have been approved by the Central Drug and Standards Committee (CDSO).

• Covishield by Serum Institute of India(SII)

• Covaxin by Bharat Biotech

• Sputnik-V by Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology Epidemiology (Russian vaccine)

These vaccines currently consist of two doses.

Why two doses

The first dose given is called the ‘ Prime dose' which develops antibodies that are not long-lasting. Then comes the second dose, the ‘ Booster dose' which boost the immune system to produce antibodies in large number thus giving long term protection.

How to register for vaccination

The registration to get a vaccine can be done either through Aarogya Setu App or CoWIN portal by the following steps:

1. Open Aarogya Setu App and click on the CoWIN portal or open the CoWIN website and click on ‘Register/Sign In yourself'.

2. Enter your mobile no. and Verify the received OTP.

3. Enter all the required information like ID proof, name, gender, and year of birth, and then tap ‘Register'.

4. Then click on ‘schedule’ to schedule an appointment.

5. Enter your Area pin to chose from the centers near you.

6. Pick a date and time and then ‘Confirm'.

You can register a maximum of 4 members with one mobile number.

The government has now updated 'MyGov' COVID-19 Helpdesk's WhatsApp chatbox to inform you about your nearest vaccination center.

  • For this, the first type and send 'Namaste' to Whatsapp no. +919013151515.
  • Enter your 6 digit area pin code.

After this, you will be able to see a list of all vaccination centers near you.

How to get the certificate

The certificate of vaccination is also important. After getting your first dose you will receive a message and a link on your mobile no.

1. Click on the link received.

2. Re-enter your mobile no. to verify.

3. Click on ‘download' to get your Covid-19 vaccination certificate.

• It gives you protection against the COVID-19 virus.

Strengthen your immunity.

• Reduce the risk of illness.

• Protect the people around you.

• Develop antibodies to fight coronavirus.

Side effects of Covid-19 vaccine

You might witness some side effect after vaccination they can be:

• Redness, bulging and itching at the site of infection.

• Headache, body pain, stiffness, etc.

• Nausea, vomiting, fever, weakness and dizziness, etc.

But there is nothing to worry about as these are normal signs that your body is responding to develop antibodies. COVID-19 vaccination drive in India is at its high. But this doesn't mean that we should stop taking precautions because these are still a necessity until we completely break down the chain of Coronavirus. Very soon the day will come when we will beat this deadly virus.
